life science 151 field trip 2013

MY Reflection on Cape point nature reserve

The Cape point nature reserve is a sensational and quiet place to be in. It has a wide range of biodiversity with more than 250 species of birds, it has a huge rocky mountain with green plants covering the entire mountain.it is so silent that one can almost hear the sea breathing. The vast amount of colours was astonishing.looking towards the see the sea appeared to have a great view, my eyes gazing around looking for the exact point were the two oceans meet, the Indian and the Atlantic ocean.

the trip was quiet a long one though as i was so eager to see  the so called Cape of Good Hope nature reserve. me and my friends kept on talking as we noticed the trip was going to be a long ride.before we got there we past numerous landscapes which gave us a feeling of excitement that the place we heading to will be great.

when we got there thy was traffic at the gates we had to wait for our turn but it was long until we eventually got in. firstly i saw the protea  flower blossoming just a few steps away from the entrance from there i could see the  variers routes channeling around the mountains. I could see people hiking.  people taking pictures. it was not long until i saw three ostriches with their tall legs and long necks. they was quiet a number of people in the reserve. at our first stop thy this cold breeze but that did not hinder the the fun to begin. as soon as everybody got off the bus then the fun began.
It was cold so we could not swim nor get close to the sea so we chose mountain climbing.it was fun but tiring.thy was strong gale when we were climbing then it got stronger and stronger as we uphill.it was a bit tough me and my Friends holded hands to  anchor each other. thy was a point were i almost fell because stones that emerged from the ground in different levels that made the surface to not be level my ankle became saw. i began to give up climbing but my friends help strive until i reached the top.

The funny moments was when we saw the monkey holding a piece of bread jumping around running away from the others as thy were previously fighting over it. thy then got into a furious fight over the piece of bread.this was exciting to watch looking at them fight for survival.i took out my phone and as soon as i began recording the video the fight was over and thy were scattered in the wild and no were to be found.we then walked to the light house this was also an exhausting journey.taking pictures around the sensational flora birds that i never seen before. the appalling creature i have came across was the black lizard. am from Limpopo and i have never ever seen a black lizard before this was so great to watch it made me realize that the world is infested with a wide rage of divers biodiversity and it never limited. The Marin protected area  at the lighthouse was the point were i could really see explicitly were the Indian and the Atlantic ocean meet thy was this long line which extended horizontally it distinguish the one ocean from the other the theory that defined this phenomena was that the other ocean contains more salt than the other. It  was amazing to observe i gazed there for long time. my mind seemed at peace i felt something was off loaded from my shoulders i could positively  say cape point nature reserve has revived me.

This pictures will forever be captured in my memory.

The extended curriculum program in University of the western Cape is for under graduate only and it is based on improving literacy skills ranging from writing skills to mathematics. It is a well constructed program with highly qualified facilitators aiding and making sure every students acquire skills to the climax.

i'm enjoying my time in this program respectively in life science.life science has been amazing  this year it has numerous  practicals which are are interesting and fun.taking a glance in the past, high school practicals are not competent to what i have seen here.high school was just infested with theory material without actual tangible practicals.all i had to do was to read and study flow diagrams and pictures  that's all nothing  to experiment with my own two hands.i recall how my life science teacher used to Bragg about how she did practicals and how thy were amazing.she never even thought of taking us to the lab ,zoo and even parks to observe environmental landscapes.the only experiment i used to do was what i call '' imagination experiment" ,YES!! imagining how you could perform a certain experiment in your uncles garages or somewhere in the states working in collaboration with Einstein or Newton.

All that was in high school but now i'm in a sophisticated university with almost everything a scholar could need.i actually do genuine experiments here with compound and dissecting microscopes this is a life changing environment.my previous experiment was awesome i had my hands on a new ZEISS PRIMO STAR microscope magnifying up to a thousand times people who have been using advanced microscopes would think using that microscope was miniature equipment but for me its incredible.working in a lab with proper safety equipment and advanced precaution measures makes me comfortable and willing to experiment without fear.working with proper tools has always made it possible foe new discoveries.
